Apple Crumble

Ingredients
  

  • Filling
  • 6 cups peeled and chopped tart apples such as Braeburn, Granny Smith, Rave, or Pink Lady
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 2 tablespoons whole wheat baking flour
  • ½ cup sugar
  • Topping
  • 3 packages instant oatmeal with cinnamon and spice
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup melted vegan butter
  • OR
  • 1 and 1/2 cups rolled oats regular oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/4 cup melted vegan butter

Instructions
 

  • Combine apples, raisins, flour, and sugar. and spoon into a 2-quart baking dish.
  • Stir the chopped nuts into the instant oatmeal packets and combine the mixture with melted vegan butter, then crumble over the fruit mixture OR combine the rolled oats/oatmeal, chopped nuts, cinnamon, and brown sugar with melted vegan butter and crumble over the fruit mixture.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Notes

Note: almost any fresh fruit or fresh fruit mixture can be substituted for the apples and raisins. and I often add 1-2 cups fresh cranberries to the mixture for the holidays (and increase the sugar to about a cup when I do so).
